Parking Ticket Turned Jail Ticket

From a simple parking ticket, to some time at Rappahannock Regional Jail. A 29-year-old Woodbridge woman who was less than enthusiastic about her parking ticket earned a ticket to the jail Saturday afternoon.

On June 24th at approximately 7:41 p.m. Deputy M.A. Holub was in the area of Walmart, located at 217 Garrisonville Road, when he observed something that wasn’t exactly a great value. There was a vehicle parked in the clearly labeled fire lane in front of the store.

Deputy Holub made contact with the driver as she returned to the improperly parked vehicle with her purchases. He proceeded to write her a parking citation. In response, the driver threw the citation out of her vehicle and quickly drove away. Considering littering a parking citation was not a valid way to get rid of the offense, Deputy Holub conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle before it could leave the parking lot. He instructed the driver to exit the vehicle, which she complied with until he informed her she was detained. She began resisting and refusing commands. With the help of a concerned citizen, Deputy Holub was able to calm the driver down and have her comply.

The driver was charged with littering, obstruction of justice, and yes, she did receive the initial parking citation. She was held at Rappahannock Regional jail on a $1,500 secured bond. A much heavier fine than a parking ticket.
