A Philadelphia man and woman made the trip down to Stafford only to be arrested after a reckless driver complaint.

On June 10th at approximately 4:10 a.m., Sergeant M.E. Gordon, after finishing a different DUI arrest, responded to the intersection of Southbound 95 and Courthouse Road for a reckless driver complaint. The caller advised a mini cooper was swerving all over the road and struck a barrier. Sergeant Gordon was able to locate the suspect vehicle in the Sheetz parking lot, located at 15 Wyche Road, as additional deputies responded.

Sergeant Gordon made contact with the Philadelphia duo, and noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the female’s breath. While she confirmed she was the driver, she provided a false name. When her real identity came to light, it was discovered she did not possess a valid driver’s license. Deputy D.S. Jett conducted field sobriety tests, and determined she was under the influence.

During a search incident to arrest, suspected controlled substances were located on her person. She requested the male suspect gather some items from the vehicle for her, and as he did, suspected controlled substances fell into plain view. Deputy W.E. Trainor, who was assisting in the investigation, quickly detained the male. Additional suspected controlled substances were located on him during a search.

The female driver was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, falsely identifying herself to law enforcement, identity theft, and two counts of possession of controlled substances. The male passenger was charged with possession of controlled substances. Both were held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
