A 20-year-old Stafford resident was arrested Friday night after a high-speed joyride.

On June 9th at approximately 11:30 p.m., Deputy W.E. Trainor was at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Coachman Circle when he observed a Camaro coming his direction at a high rate of speed. The Camaro reached speeds of 80 MPH. Deputy Trainor activated his emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop.

The Camaro pulled over at Castle Court, only to start reversing, and then stopping just before striking Deputy Trainor’s cruiser. The driver had glassy eyes, enlarged pupils, and the easily recognizable odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The driver at first denied consuming any alcohol; however, his answer later changed and he admitted to consuming cups of some banana cream moonshine. It was also revealed the 20-year-old did not have a license.

The driver was charged with driving after illegally consuming alcohol, reckless driving, as well as, driving without a license second offense. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,000 secured bond.
