An Arlington man was arrested after damaging two residences with a shovel yesterday.

On June 1st at approximately 9:51 a.m. Deputy A.J. Layug and Sergeant R.K. Pinkard responded to the 1600 block of Garrisonville Road for the report of an unusual disturbance. The caller advised an unknown male was attempting to break into his residence using a shovel. The shoveling strikes were all caught on Ring doorbell footage. Luckily the victim was not home at the time.

Deputy Layug arrived on scene to observe the suspect, Mario Tellez, 63, still at the residence. He was quickly detained. The residence had its’ window shattered, the lock on the front door destroyed, and paving bricks scattered throughout the living room. The shovel that Tellez was using in the Ring footage was located within the residence.

Tellez was charged with felony destruction of property, as well as, breaking and entering. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

While at the magistrate’s office, Deputy Layug, no pun intended, dug up another report that occurred just down the street. Another residence had its’ front window shattered. The victim also had Ring footage of the same individual smashing glass, this time with a post hole digger. Deputy Layug obtained an additional charge for felony destruction of property.
