A wanted man earned additional charges after trying to flee from a deputy in South Stafford during a warrant service yesterday morning.

On May 13th at approximately 9:00 a.m. Deputy J.E. Cordes responded to a home in Hickory Ridge for a warrant service. Spotsylvania County requested our office attempt to locate Thomas Duncan, 35, who was wanted for two felony Capias warrants.

Deputy Cordes located Duncan at the home and informed him of the active arrest warrants. He instructed Duncan to place his hands behind his back and began to apply the handcuffs. Instead of complying, Duncan pulled away, pushed off the deputy and ran through the yard, leaving the deputy with just a piece of cloth from Duncan’s shirt collar.

The foot pursuit was short-lived as Duncan was taken into custody behind a neighboring home. The deputy suffered minor injuries during the incident, but still single handedly made the arrest.

Duncan was served the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, obstruction by force, and fleeing from law enforcement. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
