Deputy J.D. Hurt was able to provide an important and valuable lesson to a juvenile after the juvenile brandished a firearm.

On April 15th at approximately 8:58 p.m. Deputy Hurt responded to Edgemere Court for a call of individuals shooting at vehicles. When Deputy Hurt arrived in the area, he immediately heard small popping sounds like that of an airsoft gun. Deputy Hurt then observed three males, one of which had a black firearm in his hand. Out of an abundance of caution, Deputy hurt gave verbal commands for all three to get on the ground. Two followed commands without hesitation, while the one holding the firearm did not.

The individual briefly pointed the firearm in Deputy Hurt’s direction before turning around and fleeing. The third individual was quickly apprehended and detained. The individual was discovered to be a juvenile, and his firearm was discovered to be a BB gun. The juveniles’ mother was contacted and responded to the scene. The juvenile got more of an earful from his mother than Deputy Hurt.

A criminal complaint was filed against the juvenile, and he received a rather important life lesson about firearm safety. Great work to Deputy Hurt for his quick thinking and resolving a dangerous situation.
