A guest who overstayed his welcome at a Stafford County motel found accommodations at the Rappahannock Regional Jail after a foot pursuit and manhunt yesterday afternoon. He should have requested the late check out.

On April 15th at 12:20 p.m. deputies responded to the Motel 6 on Warrenton Road for a disturbance. Staff advised a guest was refusing to leave despite having checked out at 11:00 a.m.

Deputy A.W. Sypolt identified the guest as Terry Palmer, 24, of Stafford and determined he was wanted out of Fredericksburg for a felony probation violation. Palmer advised his mother was on the way to pick him up, but deputies explained they would be transporting him.

As Deputy Sypolt and Sergeant N. Zotos attempted to detain Palmer, he bolted from the scene. Palmer fled across Warrenton Road and into the dense wooded area behind the Red Roof Inn. Deputies established a perimeter and attempted a K-9 track as a torrential rain storm soaked the area.

Deputies were armed with a description of the vehicle Palmer’s mother drives and approximately an hour later located the vehicle near the scene. First Sergeant J.J. Kreider conducted a traffic stop and Palmer was in the vehicle. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Palmer was served the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with fleeing from law enforcement. He was held at the jail without bond.
