A driver’s bad park job led to his arrest early Tuesday morning, leading to one less drunk driver on Stafford’s roads.

On April 4th at approximately 1:30 a.m. Deputy N.J. Amato responded to a single vehicle crash on Morton Road. A Mazda was currently sitting in a ditch. When Deputy Amato arrived on scene, he located the vehicle, and even a can of alcohol within it, but not the driver.

The vanishing driver would reappear not that far from the crash. Deputies were able to locate him down the street and identify him as a 24-year-old Stafford man. The driver had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, was unsteady on his feet, and had slowed slurred speech. He advised the crash occurred because he wasn’t paying attention and overcorrected.

During their interaction, the driver would advised Deputy Amato he did not want to go back to jail. That ship sailed when he made the choice to drink and drive. The driver was charged with driving under the influence second offense in five years, drinking while driving, hit and run, as well as, driving with a restricted license due to a prior alcohol offense. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Drive sober or there is a mattress waiting at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
