A Spotsylvania man escalated a situation and assaulted a deputy during a call of a disturbance before the sun even rose.

On February 6th, at approximately 6:24 a.m. Deputies responded to Bedrock Way for a call of a disturbance. The caller advised an unknown man was pulling on their vehicle’s door handles, as well as, their basement door.

When deputies arrived in the area, they located a man matching the description of the suspect. The suspect denied being involved, but advised he did attempt to enter a vehicle because he thought it belonged to his girlfriend.

The suspect was detained at that time, which the suspect was less than cooperative about. The suspect advised he had nothing on him and gave deputies permission to search his belongings. During the search, a suspected controlled substance was located in his wallet. The suspect advised it was “barely anything,”. Barely is still more than nothing, and deputies advised him he was under arrest. His less than cooperative state continued as he assaulted one deputy.

The suspect, Robert Johnson, 33, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and assault on a law enforcement officer. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
