Traffic in Stafford can sometimes make the roads feel like a parking lot; however, one drunk driver took that a step too far.

On January 18th at approximately 1:55 a.m. Deputy B.M. Taylor responded to a call of an auto accident on Deacon Road. The caller advised a man who appeared “definitely drunk,” was walking away from a single vehicle crash. When Deputy Taylor arrived on scene she observed a damaged vehicle parked in the middle of the road with street signs also damaged. As clean up began on the unusual parking job, Deputy Taylor canvased the area to locate the driver.

Deputy Taylor was able to locate a man matching the suspect’s description walking unsteadily nearby. When Deputy Taylor made contact with the suspect, he advised he was recently in a crash and was drunk. That was apparent by his unsteady movements, glassy eyes and strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The nineteen-year-old driver advised he consumed roughly seven shots of vodka before he attempted to drive to Wawa for a sandwich. The sandwich was still warm in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.2, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, as well as, hit and run. His sandwich would have to wait until he was no longer intoxicated and released from Rappahannock Regional Jail.
