A young Stafford man was arrested on serious charges after a traffic stop in South Stafford.

On January 7th, at approximately 8:19 p.m. Deputy M.A. Pearce was traveling Southbound on Warrenton Road when he observed a vehicle failing to maintain the lane of travel and nearly rear end another vehicle. Deputy Pearce initiated a traffic stop on Carter Street. The twenty-year-old driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. There was also an open case of Twisted Tea located next to him. It appeared his juvenile passage was also intoxicated.

Deputy A.J. Charoenthep responded to assist in the DUI investigation. The driver also advised he had a firearm. A firearm was located concealed in his pocket and not within the vehicle like he had mentioned. The driver was arrested and the juvenile passenger was released to a guardian.

The driver was charged with driving after illegally consuming alcohol, carrying a concealed, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and drinking while operating a vehicle. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Great work to Deputy Pearce and Deputy Charoenthep for taking another drunk driver off the roads. If you would like to help keep Stafford safe, you can apply to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office today at https://www.staffordsheriff.com/content/employment/currentpositions.cfm
