A Stafford man delayed his inevitable arrest for approximately an hour and a half and earned an extra charge after a barricade situation last night in North Stafford.

On October 15th at approximately 9:00 p.m. deputies responded to a home on Fallsway Drive in Shadow Woods subdivision to serve warrants from other jurisdictions. Deputies had information Christopher Smith, 31, was wanted in Patrick County for felony vandalism and assault on a family member. He was also wanted in Henry County for threats over the phone.

As deputies attempted contact at the front of the home, another deputy observed Smith in the backyard of the residence and ordered him to stop. Instead, Smith fled into the basement of the home and locked the sliding glass door behind him.

The Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to convince Smith to exit the home. Finally, after approximately an hour and a half, Smith exited the home and was taken into custody.

Smith was served the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with obstruction. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Great teamwork by the deputies to peacefully resolve the situation.
