A Fredericksburg woman’s failed attempt to use a false identity, combined with a fruitless attempt to flee on foot, ended with her incarceration.

On August 7th at 2:51 p.m. First Sergeant J.J. Kreider observed Claire Kaus walking in the area of the Red Roof Inn on Warrenton Road. This is significant because Kaus was wanted on a felony probation violation in Stafford County.

First Sergeant Kreider approached Kaus and asked her name. She provided a fictitious name, birth date and social security number. When asked to repeat the social security number, Kaus left out two numbers. Her third attempt at providing the number not only lacked two digits, but the numbers were changed.

Kaus began to back away from the deputy and he informed her she was not free to leave. Kaus exacerbated the situation by running toward the motel. Her run for freedom was unsuccessful and she was captured after a short foot chase.

Kaus was charged with false ID to law enforcement, identity theft, obstruction and public intoxication. The outstanding warrant was also served and she was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
