A Spotsylvania man faces a plethora of charges after an early morning disturbance in Stafford County yesterday.

On August 3rd at 2:01 a.m. Deputy T.A. Vasquez and Deputy B.M. Taylor responded to a residence on Spotted Tavern Road for a disturbance with a weapon. The deputies learned Christopher Raines, 35, had pointed a handgun at a resident of the home and fled in a GMC truck.

The deputies encountered the truck on Hartwood Road near Stork Road and conducted a high risk stop. Raines was detained without incident. HIs attempt to get rid of the handgun was thwarted, as Deputy Taylor located the discarded weapon in the roadway near the traffic stop.

The investigation revealed Raines is an acquaintance of the homeowner and had been asked to leave the residence. He returned to the home after 1:00 a.m. and began trying to force entry. Raines kicked an exterior door and ripped open a locked screen door. Raines proceeded to brandish a handgun at the victim, before he fled in his truck.

A suspected controlled substance was located in Raines’ wallet and Deputy Vasquez learned Raines was a convicted felon. Raines was charged with burglary, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, convicted felon with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with drugs, brandishing, vandalism, and assault and battery. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
