By Major Shawn Kimmitz

A hit and run driver was charged yesterday thanks to a helpful photo from the victim.

On July 23rd at 3:04 p.m. Deputy F.C. O’Neill responded to an auto accident at Warrenton Road near South Gateway Drive. The investigation revealed a silver Chevy Cruz had merged into the side of a Toyota Sequoia. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the crash.

The Chevy continued onto South Gateway Drive after the accident, with the Toyota following. The driver of the Chevy briefly stopped at Falls Run Drive and acted as though he was going to exchange information. Instead, he ran back to his car and fled the scene.

Thanks to the cell phone camera, the victim provided a clear image of the suspect’s license plate. Deputy O’Neill identified the hit and run driver as Richard Williams, Jr., 21, of Stafford. Williams was charged yesterday with hit and run and no driver’s license. Williams was released on his promise to appear in court on August 11th.

Great job by the victim providing the photo to identify this suspect.
