An intoxicated Stafford man was arrested in North Stafford yesterday after fleeing an accident scene and nearly causing another.

On July 25th, 2022 at 4:40 p.m. Deputy J.C. Curtis responded to Garrisonville Road near Onville Road for a hit and run. The victim had their vehicle struck as the suspect driver was coming out of the Arby’s parking lot. The suspect then crossed over the median into eastbound lanes. As the victim tried to make contact with the suspect, the suspect then drove away down Garrisonville Road. The victim provided the suspect’s tag to Deputy Curtis, which returned to Thomas Alvarez, 42, of Stafford.

As Deputy Curtis was leaving the scene, he received a call of a near accident involving the same vehicle. The second victim was driving on Doc Stone Road when the suspect driver tried to pass a vehicle by crossing the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. The victim avoided the crash and the suspect driver pulled into a nearby parking lot.

When Deputy Curtis arrived, he found Alvarez standing outside the car using a street sign to hold him up. Alvarez had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. He also stated to Deputy Curtis that he had been consuming alcohol. Alvarez’s license was also revoked in Virginia due to a previous driving under the influence offense.

Alvarez was charged with driving under the influence second offense, felony hit and run, driving while revoked and endangerment. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
