No state inspection sticker was the least of the worries for a Stafford man stopped by Deputy C.T. Richardson Sunday evening in South Stafford.

On June 5th at 9:00 p.m. Deputy Richardson responded to a reckless driving complaint regarding two vehicles racing on Kings Highway from the King George County line. Deputy Richardson observed the vehicles on Kings Highway near Cleek Lane and received a radar reading of 102 mph in the posted 55 mph zone.

Deputy Richardson activated his emergency equipment and was able to stop one of the vehicles, a silver Ford Mustang, while a white SUV continued on, like Hangman leaving his wingman in the Top Gun: Maverick movie. The driver of the Mustang was identified as Charles Madison, 24. The Mustang did not have a valid inspection, but as mentioned earlier, this was the least of his worries.

Madison had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and slurred speech. He was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless driving. The magistrate ordered Madison held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. Deputies are working to confirm the identity of the other driver involved.

This was the second DUI arrest this weekend for Deputy Richardson with a suspect travelling at 100 mph or more. He made an arrest early Saturday morning on Garrisonville Road at Joshua Road, for an intoxicated Corvette driver travelling 100 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Drive sober or get pulled over.
