A wanted Stafford man could not keep his false identity facts straight and was arrested during a disturbance in North Stafford Saturday night.

On May 29th at 10:49 p.m. Deputy M.A. Holub responded to the Woodspring Suites on Corporate Drive for a disturbance. A witness reported Tavares Winston, 38, was involved in the argument.

As deputies spoke with Winston, he attempted to use a fictitious name and date of birth. When the information did not return in law enforcement databases, Winston was asked to repeat the birth date. Winston provided a different date, 2,386 days from the first response (nearly 7 years difference).

Deputy J.D. Hurt responded to assist and a review of law enforcement databases confirmed the subject was Winston. When people provide false names, they are often trying to hide their wanted status. This held true, as Winston was wanted on several court and probation violations in Shenandoah and Fauquier Counties.

Winston was served the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with identity theft. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
