An unlicensed, uninsured, hit and run driver was arrested Friday and found to be wanted in Prince William County.

On May 6th at 8:22 p.m. Deputy C.C. Lee responded to a minor accident in the area of Mine Road and Garrisonville Road. He learned the driver of a red Toyota Camry had rear ended a truck and then parked at the nearby Walmart. The Camry driver admitted to the other driver he did not have a license or insurance and left the scene on foot toward Garrisonville Road.

Upon checking the registration of the Camry, Deputy Lee discovered the owner was not only unlicensed, but was also wanted for robbery in Prince William County. A witness at the scene provided a photo of the hit and run driver, and Deputy Lee shared the photo with other deputies in the area.

First Sergeant D.F. Purcell, Jr. began checking the area and observed the suspect enter a vehicle, later determined to be an Uber, at the Popeye’s restaurant. A traffic stop was conducted and the hit and run driver was positively identified as Cornelius McGriff, 29, of Stafford.

McGriff was arrested for hit and run, no license and no insurance and served the outstanding Prince William warrant. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
