A reckless driver was jailed yesterday after he used the shoulder of I-95 to pass vehicles in heavy traffic and was found to be wanted for a previous reckless driving charge.

On April 20th at approximately 11:10 p.m. Sergeant B.U. Demirci was in the heavy traffic approaching a construction zone on I-95 North near the 137 mile-marker. He was creeping along at about 5 mph when a blue Dodge Charger approached, passing the congested traffic on the left shoulder at approximately 50 mph. Where are the police when you need them? Sgt. Demirci was right there!

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Eric Washington III, 24, of Stafford. When Sgt. Demirci checked Washington’s license, he discovered Washington was already wanted for a pending reckless driving warrant in Stafford.

On April 17th Deputy D.S. Jett received several complaints of a reckless driver in a blue Dodge Charger at Royal Crescent Way and Village Parkway. Deputy Jett was able to identify Washington as the suspect who had done donuts in the road, leaving a portion of his tires on the roadway.

As luck would have it, Deputy Jett was working and responded to the scene to make the arrest. A handgun was also found concealed in the vehicle. Washington was served the outstanding reckless driving warrant and a new reckless driving warrant and a concealed weapon warrant were obtained. Washington was held on a $2,000 bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on the three charges.
