A driver and passenger were both arrested and jailed after a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

On March 16th at 12:04 a.m. Deputy D.S. Jett stopped a vehicle on Simpson Road for a traffic infraction. The driver was identified as Tony Sprouse, Jr., 30, of Spotsylvania. Sprouse let the deputy know he had a handgun in the center console.

A female in the passenger seat did not want to provide any identification or tell her name, but Deputy Jett determined she was Jessica Pate, 29, of Stafford. It is likely Pate avoided revealing her name since she had active warrants in Stafford County for failure to appear. When Pate was detained, she tried to say her last name was “Lyon,” but deputies knew she was lying.

During a search of Pate incident to her arrest, a suspected controlled substance was located and it was folded into a peel off name tag inscribed with the name “Jessica Pate.” A search of the vehicle revealed an additional suspected controlled substance and controlled paraphernalia.

Sprouse was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance. Pate was served the outstanding warrants and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled paraphernalia, identity fraud, and false identification. Sprouse received a $2,500 bond and Pate was held without bond. Both were turned over to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
