The filling of a fraudulent prescription led to the filling of a jail cell by a Washington. D.C. man on Sunday afternoon.
On February 5th Deputy R.A. Dominguez took a report regarding a suspected fraudulent prescription. Staff at the CVS Pharmacy on McWhirt Loop had received a call to fill a prescription of Xanax and Promethazine with Codeine. Staff recognized the call as a fraud and notified law enforcement.

On February 6th CVS staff alerted the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office the suspect was calling the business requesting a time to pick up the phony prescription. The suspect was told it would be available after 1:00 p.m. First Sergeant D.F. Purcell, Jr. and Deputy E.C. Taylor of the Special Problems Unit set up surveillance in the parking lot of the drug store. At 2:21 p.m. the suspect exited the store with the ill-gotten prescription and was promptly taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as John Jones, 24. In addition to the fraudulent prescription he had just picked up, Jones had stolen identification documents in his possession. A search of his vehicle revealed several additional prescription bottles of Xanax and Promethazine in different names. There were also four prescription papers for additional prescriptions in assorted names.

Deputy J.E. Cordes responded to transport Jones to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Jones was charged with possession with intent to distribute, prescription fraud and identity theft and held without bond. This is an ongoing investigation. Great work by the staff at CVS recognizing this bogus prescription.
