A hit and run driver has been identified and arrested after a pedestrian was struck in the early morning hours on Saturday, January 15th.

On January 15th at 3:33 a.m. deputies responded to a pedestrian struck accident in the area of Route 1 near Foreston Woods Drive. They discovered a 14-year-old male in the roadway with serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and has since been released to recover at home.

The investigation revealed the juvenile was skateboarding in the roadway and was struck by a passing motorist. Deputies conducted interviews of witnesses on the scene, but no one acknowledged knowing who had hit the young man.

Deputy S.C. Martin of the Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene and collected evidence. He began checking nearby parking lots and located a vehicle with damage consistent with evidence at the accident scene. Deputy Martin was able to gather additional evidence through search warrants and identify the suspect as William Lopez Funes, 30, of Stafford.

Lopez Funes was arrested yesterday afternoon for felony hit and run, obstruction of justice and no driver's license. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
