A Stafford man was arrested for several charges Saturday night in England Run after a brief foot pursuit.

Deputy F.C. O’Neill responded to Lyons Boulevard at 10:42 p.m. Saturday night after a witness reported hearing the sound of a gunshot and seeing a subject run. The witness continued to observe the subject and pointed him out to the deputy when he arrived.

Deputy O’Neill noticed the subject was kneeling on the sidewalk fumbling with items in his hands. As the deputy approached, the subject abruptly got up and began stumbling away. He still had something in his hands, but left his earbuds on the sidewalk. The subject then began running from the deputy, but was detained as he reached Chain Court.

The subject was identified as Ishmael Murdock, 30. Murdock had glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from him. Two shell casings were discovered with Murdock, one spent and one live. Deputy O’Neill noticed that the other items Murdock was fumbling with were missing. A quick search of the area revealed Murdock had tossed a handgun into the yard at the scene of his arrest.

While being escorted into the magistrate’s office, Murdock was able to lower his sweatpants and underwear and urinate on the sidewalk.

Murdock was charged with being intoxicated in public, indecent exposure, reckless handling of a firearm, shooting in a public place and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Deputies canvassed the area of the gunshot, but were unable to determine where the round went.
