A driver on I-95 Saturday night mistakenly thought he was being pulled over and his subsequent erratic driving led to a crash, DUI and ultimately the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

On Saturday September 19th at approximately 10:16 p.m. Detective N.D. Ridings responded in his assigned Sheriff’s vehicle with lights and siren to an emergency call. As he approached the Courthouse Road exit of I-95 North, he observed a white sedan ahead of him begin to drive erratically. The sedan went onto the right shoulder, crossed back across all three lanes, then again crossed the travel lanes to exit onto Courthouse Road.

As the suspect vehicle attempted to exit I-95, it struck two other vehicles and came to a stop on the median. Deputy E.E. West responded to assist and identified the driver as Javin Zazueta, 22, of Spotsylvania. Zazueta had glassy eyes and appeared confused. Zazueta believed he was being stopped by the Sheriff’s vehicle and drove in that manner because he did not have a license. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the accident.

Field sobriety tests were administered and Zazueta was arrested for DUI, reckless driving, and no driver’s license. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $1,500 secure bond.
