Two subjects were incarcerated after deputies responded to a local restaurant for a report of intoxicated people.

Deputies Connelly, Keenan, and Martinez responded to Applebee’s at 1000 Stafford Marketplace on July 25th at 12:44 a.m. for a report of intoxicated people. Witnesses reported that a heavily damaged truck had driven recklessly through the parking lot and two males had exited the vehicle and were stumbling around.

Deputies learned that Andrew Ward, 34, of Spotsylvania, had been operating the vehicle. Field sobriety tests were administered and Ward was arrested for DUI. During a search incident to arrest, a suspected controlled substance was located. A search warrant for blood was executed and Ward was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,000 secure bond for DUI and possession of a controlled substance. Deputies were unable to determine the location of the accident that damaged the suspect vehicle.

The passenger from the vehicle was identified as Talmadge Burks, Jr., 42, of Stafford. In addition to appearing intoxicated in public, Burks had active warrants in Stafford County for failure to appear and violation of probation. Burks attempted to pull away and resist the deputies as he was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest yielded a suspected controlled substance as well as drug paraphernalia. Burks was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled paraphernalia, obstruction, intoxicated in public and the active Stafford County warrants.
