Stafford VA. A suspect was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday by deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office for attempting to pull a knife on deputies who were responding to an altercation outside of a local motel.

On September 1, 2019, at approximately 3:52 a.m., deputies responded to a fight in progress involving over 20 people at the Days Inn Motel located at 14 Simpson Road. The 911 caller stated a knife was involved.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a large group gathered in front of the motel including a male subject with a large knife hanging from his belt. He was identified as Cesar Muniz, 28, of Bronx, NY. The deputy detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. In addition, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his speech was slurred.

Muniz became very agitated and belligerent, prompting Deputy Pearce to advise him that he was under arrest for public intoxication. The suspect resisted and attempted to pull his knife. Sgt. Aubry utilized his taser to prevent the suspect from doing so. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.

The suspect was charged with attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, two counts of obstruction of justice, and drunk in public. He was incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
