What is TRIAD?
TRIAD is a national movement that began in 1988. TRIAD represents a three-way partnership among a community’s older or retired leaders, it’s local chief of police and its sheriff, to address crime issues which affect the health and safety of older citizens. These three-part TRIAD teams work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly and to enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to the older persons.
Working Together to Reduce Crime Against Seniors
What is the purpose of TRIAD?
To develop, expand and implement effective crime prevention and education programs for older community members. To provide activities that center on prevention of victimization and victim/witness assistance services.
What are the goals of TRIAD?
-
Reduce criminal victimizations of older persons
-
Improve quality of life for older residents of the community
-
Focus on the crime related needs and concerns of older persons
-
Involve the community in implementing solutions
-
Enhance delivery of law enforcement services to the elderly
What role does TRIAD play in the community?
We educate…
By sponsoring crime prevention and victim/witness programs for older persons
We assist…
By recruiting and training volunteers to assist the Sheriff’s Office
We reach out…
By offering older persons helpful programs and service information to reduce fear and give moral support
We communicate…
By providing a forum for the community and law enforcement to share needs and concerns to seek community wide solutions
Our advisory body, called a SALT Council (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together)
SALT works in conjunction with these organizations. The SALT serves as a soundboard for the work of the TRAID, and follows through on programs that inform and educate the community in the areas of crime prevention and safety.
