| Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's has received an "allocation" of the 2010 State Homeland Security Program grant from the National Preparedness Directorate, United States Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $970,600.00.
The grant will provide the funding to purchase radio units (both mobile and portable) that will meet requirements set by the Federal Communication Commission for the radio system, purchased by Stafford County, for a 2016 mandate. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office and the Stafford Fire & Rescue Department are in the process of upgrading the radio system used by both entities. This upgrade will ensure that first responders have the ability to communicate easily with their counterparts in the Fredericksburg region in case of a major event, improving the level of interoperability among the responders.
The grant will allow Stafford County Sheriff's Office to upgrade the system originally contracted in 2008 at no cost to the citizens of Stafford. |
