UPDATE: Vern Sjogreen Jr. has been taken into custody. He was held on a $5,000 secured bond.

On November 23 at 10:22 p.m., Deputy C.S. Haines was on patrol in the area of Jefferson Davis Highway and Spring Valley Drive when he observed a vehicle driving 89mph in a 45mph zone. Deputy Haines activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving at a high-rate of speed in an attempt to elude the deputy. The pursuit continued onto I-95 south.
On I-95, the vehicle drove at a high-rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic. As the vehicle exited onto Jefferson Davis Highway, it ran a red light almost striking three vehicles. During the pursuit on Jefferson Davis Highway, the vehicle reached speeds of 120mph.
The vehicle turned onto Hudgins Road where it drove through a front yard before Deputy Haines initiated vehicle contact successfully stopping the vehicle. The suspect then fled the vehicle on-foot. A foot chase ensued, but was terminated for a K9 track. A K9 track was initiated, but the suspect was not located.

Deputy Haines later identified the driver as Vern Sjogreen Jr., 20, of Joliet, Illinois. Sjogreen Jr. is wanted for eluding and traffic offenses. Additional charges are pending.
