Thanks to the loss prevention office at Walmart and the diligent investigative work of Sgt. Colona, a suspect who stole a purse out of a shopping cart has been located and taken into custody.

On May 1, 2020, at approximately 5:24 p.m., Sgt. Colona responded to the Walmart located at 217 Garrisonville Road regarding a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, he learned that a woman had forgotten her purse in a shopping cart. She quickly realized her mistake, but when she returned, her purse was gone.

Sgt. Colona then made contact with loss prevention personnel who provided him with a description of the suspect. He then observed the suspect leaving the store and made contact with her. She was identified as Marilyn Bradford, 25, of Stafford. The stolen purse was located in the suspect’s possession and some of the contents of the purse including credit cards were found in the store bathroom. Cash taken from the purse was located on the suspect’s person.

Bradford was taken into custody and incarcerated at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond on charges of credit card theft and petit larceny.

We could not do what we do without our community partners. Thank you to all those involved in helping to reunite the victim with her purse, cash, and credit cards.
