Stafford, VA. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with our law enforcement partners has determined that the body of the homicide victim discovered near River Road in Stafford County on Saturday was killed in a jurisdiction in Maryland.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, at approximately 4:50 a.m., a deputy with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office was driving down River Road when he observed an unknown object in the area between the road and the Rappahannock River. He exited his vehicle and realized upon closer inspection that the object was the body of a male subject. He also observed signs of trauma to the body.

Stafford detectives later released a photo of a distinctive tattoo on the victim’s left forearm. Tips received from the public in response to that photo directly led to the identification of the victim. The victim has been identified as a 16-year-old male subject from Fairfax, Virginia. Prince George's County Police will be releasing the name of the victim.

Detectives have determined that the homicide occurred in Prince George’s County, Maryland and that the body was transported to Stafford County.

Stafford detectives have been working around the clock to resolve this case in collaboration with our law enforcement partners in the Washington metropolitan area including the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland, Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfax County Police Department, and state and federal authorities. We would also like to thank the public for their assistance during the investigation.

The homicide remains under active investigation.
