The Stafford Sheriff’s Office responded to a water rescue incident on the Rappahannock River on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at approximately 5:30 p.m. A call came in to dispatch from a passerby along River Road near Pratt Park. The passerby was acting at the request of a family member stating that a relative of hers had gone into the river and had not returned. A search of the shoreline did not reveal anyone matching the description of the 36-year-old, Hispanic male, with medium build wearing dark shorts.

A water, ground and air search was conducted by the Fairfax County Police Helicopter, Fredericksburg Police, Fredericksburg Fire and Rescue, in addition to Stafford’s Fire and Rescue and Sheriff’s Office personnel. The missing subject was not located. The search was discontinued due to darkness and the treacherous conditions of the river.

An assessment will be done in the morning as to the next steps in the search.
