In the past year, USAA in particular has experienced identity theft related fraud due to the information breach at the Office of Personnel Management. This new fraud scheme involves identity thieves using members personal identifying information to create online accounts with USAA. This only affects people who are already a USAA member and have not established an online profile already. To protect against this type of fraud, USAA recommends the following steps:

1.) Go to the USAA website and create an online profile. Creating this profile is a free service provided by USAA.

2.) Take advantage of the enhanced security options such as the USAA cyber token that can be linked to their account. These different options can be reviewed at https://www.usaa.com/inet/pages/security_token_logon_options
