Robbery Suspect Arrested

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a robbery that took place yesterday evening Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Holiday Inn Express located at 560 Warrenton Rd in Stafford County.

Stafford Deputies responded to the robbery call at approximately 5:43 pm after receiving a 9-1-1 call from the business stating that a subject entered the hotel and produced what they believed was a gun wrapped in a black plastic bag. The subject demanded the money from the register. The subject fled the scene on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of money. Multiple units set up a perimeter and saturated the area. A short time later Deputy Alex Smith spotted an individual matching the suspect description heading toward the Days Inn located at 14 Simpson Rd. The subject disappeared into the hotel complex. A short time later the subject was located in a room by 1st Sergeant Robbie Grella and Deputy Alex Smith. The subject was identified as 45 year old Corwin Curtis Vanier of Stafford County. Stafford Detectives took over the investigation. Several search warrants were executed in reference to the robbery. Vanier was ultimately charged with one count of robbery and one count of grand larceny.

The investigation into Vanier is ongoing as detectives look into his possible involvement with other recent robberies that have occurred along the Rt. 17 corridor.

Corwin Vanier is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
