Bridge crew will be repairing a bridge joint on southbound Route 1
over the Rappahannock River at Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG – Southbound Route 1 will be reduced to a single travel lane over the Falmouth Bridge between Stafford County and Fredericksburg today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for repairs to a damaged bridge joint.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) bridge crew will weld a piece of damaged steel on the joint to prevent further damage and deterioration, and to prevent it from becoming a safety hazard for motorists. A replacement plate for the joint will be installed this fall.

A daytime lane closure was scheduled to avoid conflict with ongoing night work at the intersection of Route 1, Route 17 Business and Route 218 (Butler Road) in Stafford County, where VDOT and its contractor are improving the intersection at Falmouth.

Motorists can expect minor delays at the Falmouth Bridge while the work zone is underway, and are encouraged to take alternate routes.

Motorists can call 511, visit www.511Virginia.org, or use VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app to find real-time traffic and work zone information in any area of the state.
