The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office announces with great sadness and a profound sense of loss the death of Retired Captain Arthur “Gil” Kendall. Captain Kendall passed away, in the company of his family, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

At the time of his retirement, Captain Kendall was the Commander of the Sheriff’s Office Court Services Division. Captain Kendall had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement spanning over 30 years. Captain Kendall worked at the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office and the Fredericksburg Police Department before embarking on a 28 year career with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office in 1984. While at the Sheriff’s Office, Captain Kendall served as a member of the Field Operations Division, the SWAT Team, a K-9 Officer, a Crime Scene Technician, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Marine Patrol, the Administrative Services Division and finally the Court Services Division.

Captain Kendall was also a certified Courthouse Security Assessor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In this role he was able to share his expertise and conduct security assessments for numerous localities all over the State of Virginia that helped to better ensure the safety and security of judges, deputies, courthouse staff and visitors.

“We have lost a great friend and public servant,” states Sheriff Charles Jett. “Captain Kendall committed his adult life to public service and was dedicated to protecting, serving and helping the citizens of Stafford County. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Sharon and his entire family. Gil will be greatly missed.”
