Steel Girder Repairs

In March 2013, one of the exterior bridge girders on the I-95 south overpass at Russell Road was damaged when a dump truck struck the girder. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has hired Fluor-Lane 95, the Express Lanes Design-Builder to repair the girder. Work is scheduled to start on or about March 24, and continue into late April/early May, weather permitting.

Russell Road Lanes Shifted
To make room under the bridge for repairs, traffic will be shifted to one side of the roadway and reduced to one lane in each direction.

Crews will place concrete barriers and barrels along Russell Road to create the work zone under the bridge. VDOT and the Marine Corps Base Quantico will monitor the traffic signals along Russell Road to facilitate traffic movement.

Traffic Impacts
Motorists should expect delays during peak a.m. and p.m. hours along Russell Road due to the lane reduction in each direction.

The 95 Express Lanes will provide new choices, add capacity and extend and improve the performance of the
existing HOV system. The 95 Express Lanes will extend from the Edsall Road area in Fairfax County to
Garrisonville Road in Stafford County.
