ROUTE 17 WORK ZONE SPEED LIMIT EXTENDED TO THE INTERSTATE 95 INTERCHANGE

Motorists traveling between Interstate 95 and International Parkway will be impacted by the 35 mph speed limit

FREDERICKSBURG – As progress continues on the Route 17 widening project in Stafford County, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has extended the reduced speed limit on Route 17 to Interstate 95.

Effective immediately, the speed limit between the Interstate 95 interchange and International Parkway has been reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. The lowered speed limit will be effective in both directions on Route 17 and encompasses the entire project corridor.

In July 2013, the speed limit was reduced to 35 mph between Celebrate Virginia Parkway and Stafford Lakes Parkway.

Message boards and orange speed limit signs are in place to alert motorists of the reduced speed limit in the work zone.

The $48.9 million project to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles began in June 2013 and is expected to be complete in December 2016.
