Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial Groundbreaking

Chaplain Ron Thayer of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office & the Stafford Fire & Rescue Department led the invocation at the Ceremonial Groundbreaking for the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial on Friday, January 3, 2014. The groundbreaking took place at the future site of the memorial located between the Capital and the General Assembly Building in Richmond. The memorial is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014. Joining Chaplain Thayer was Sheriff Charles Jett, member of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation, Mayor Dwight Jones, Mayor of Richmond, United States Senator Tim Kaine, Governor Bob McDonnell, Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Joining these men were numerous other government leaders, law enforcement and fire & rescue personnel from across the state and family members of public safety personnel who have lost their life in the line of duty.
