NEWS RELEASE

MAN CHARGED IN DEATH OF INFANT

Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is reporting the arrest of Duc Chau, age 40 of 1103 Providence Street. Duc Chau has been charged with 1 Count of First Degree Murder, 1 Count of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and 2 Counts of Child Abuse in the death of a 17 month old male baby. Duc Chau is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

On July 13, 2013, Stafford deputies responded to 1103 Providence Street to assist members of the Fire &
Rescue Department for what was reported as injuries from a fall. The adult baby sitter, Duc Chau, told deputies that the baby was running to get a bottle of milk that he had just made for the baby when the baby tripped and fell on a tile floor. The baby was transported to an area hospital to be treated. After arriving at the hospital the baby was then flown to the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for further evaluation. On July 15, 2013 the 17 month old baby boy died.

Stafford County Detective Todd Nosal began investigating the incident on July 13 due to the serious nature of the injuries that the baby had sustained. The investigation was presented to a Special Stafford County Grand Jury on Friday, July 26, 2013. The Grand jury issued the indictments against Duc Chau. Mr. Chau turned himself in to detectives at the Sheriff's Office Monday night, July 29. The investigation has indicated that the 17 month old baby boy, who was under the care of his baby sitter, Duc Chau, died as a result of significant head trauma caused by Duc Chau.

This is an ongoing investigation and no other information will be made available at this time.
