RELEASE: IMMEDIATE June 7, 2013
GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR ROUTE 17 WIDENING
WHAT: Groundbreaking Ceremony
WHEN: Wednesday, June 12
WHERE: VDOT Park & Ride Lot
WHO: Sean T. Connaughton, Virginia Secretary of Transportation
This event will break ground on a nearly $50 million widening of Route 17 in Stafford County, which will reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on this critical freight and commercial corridor near the point it merges with Interstate 95. Route 17 will be widened from four lanes to six lanes between just south of McLane Drive to just north of Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of approximately 2 miles. This project will build a continuous right turn lane in each direction, and dual left turn lanes at intersections will be built as needed. This project will greatly enhance the ability of through traffic to move along Route 17 to the Interstate 95 interchange, and allow local traffic to enter and exit commercial entrances. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 95 North
From Interstate 95 South
