HEROIN BUST

Stafford, Va. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is reporting the arrest of Steve Carrington Durham, Jr., age 28 of Brick, New Jersey. Steve Durham has been charged with 1 Count Possession With Intent to Distribute a Schedule I or II Narcotic. Mr. Durham is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

In early May, 2013 Detective Nick Chiappini of the Special Investigations Unit began an investigation regarding the shipment of a large quantity of heroin that was destined to be picked up in Stafford County and delivered south of the Fredericksburg region.

On the late night hours of May 8, 2013 Durham was stopped in the Courthouse Road area of Stafford, in his vehicle along with unnamed female who was later released with no charges. A K-9 unit was requested and Master Deputy Scott Myers and his K-9, Khaos arrived on scene and the K-9 alerted on the trunk area of Durham's car. A search of the trunk revealed approximately two kilograms of heroin with a street value estimated at $270,000.00 dollars.

This is still a very active and ongoing investigation and additional charges are likely. Members of the Drug Enforcement Administration and other, unnamed localities are also involved in this investigation. During this investigation it was revealed that Steve Durham was currently out on bond for a similar offense that occurred in New Jersey approximately one week prior to his arrest in Stafford County.

This seizure is one of the largest of its type in this region's history.
