HARRELL ROAD NOW OPEN
Temporary repair is complete on secondary road in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 623 (Harrell Road) in Stafford County has re-opened to traffic at the Claiborne Run crossing.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) maintenance crews have installed a temporary support system for several broken grate lids at the water crossing.

Harrell Road closed to through traffic a week ago, after one of the grate covers fell into the culvert. The concrete ledge that supported it failed. VDOT will be developing a permanent repair to support the grate covers.

The steel grates on the road surface cover a culvert that carries water beneath Harrell Road. The grate covers are removable so maintenance crews can easily lift them to extract trash and debris.

Harrell Road is located between Forbes Street (Route 627) and Deacon Road (Route 607).

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT's 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
