UPDATE ON HUMAN SKELETAL REMAINS FOUND IN STAFFORD

Stafford, Va. On Thursday, August 16, 2012 the Stafford County Sheriff's Office reported that human skeletal remains had been found in the wooded area near the northbound 140 off ramp exit of I-95. Members of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office as well as members of the Virginia State Police were part of the initial investigation and will continue to work together as the investigation of this incident continues.

Preliminary autopsy reports indicate that the skeletal remains are that of a female, age 25-40 years of age. The remains had been in the area where they were located for at least 1 year, possibly much longer. Sheriff's Office Detectives are handling the case as a suspicious death because of the evidence found at the scene. Due to the sensitivity of the on-going investigation no other information is available at this time. Additional information will be made available when possible.
