Fatal Accident on Richmond Highway

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – Around 3:30 a.m. on September 2, 2026, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle on fire on Richmond Highway near Twin Brook Lane. Information was provided that the vehicle went off the road before catching on fire.

Richmond Highway Southbound was shut down for an extended period of time to allow Stafford County Fire and Rescue to administer first aid and put out the fire.

The passenger of the vehicle was confirmed deceased on scene.

Investigators were informed that the driver of a black SUV stopped and rendered aid to the driver by removing them from the vehicle.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate the driver of the black SUV to gather more information about the incident. Anybody who has information on the driver of the black SUV is encouraged to contact Deputy Motley at gmotley@staffordcountyva.gov or call 540-658-4450.
