| After driving intoxicated with a child, a 32-year-old Culpeper woman would assault a deputy late Saturday night. On August 23rd, at approximately 10:19 p.m., a deputy was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway in the area of Hope Road. While doing so, the deputy observed a Mazda parked in the right lane. The deputy approached the vehicle in an attempt to uncover why it was stopped. Inside the vehicle was a female and a child. The female, now sitting in the passenger seat, advised she was driving until she “ran out of gas.” She would quickly change her mind and say “no one” was driving. The driver had signs of intoxication, a prior DUI offense, and a revoked driver’s license. Due to her level of non-compliance and aggression, she was detained. The child was transferred to a responsible party. The driver was identified as Kayla Johnson. Deputies attempted a blood draw to determine her level of intoxication when she became combative. She would spit on and kick towards a Sergeant. The Sergeant was not injured during the assault. Johnson was charged with driving under the influence second offense in five years, second offense refusal, child endangerment, two counts of assault and battery on law enforcement, driving without a license, and parking on a highway. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. |
