A Dumfries man, who couldn’t recall the number of beers he consumed, was charged with his second DUI over the weekend.

On July 5th at approximately 9:44 p.m. Deputy R.A. Kehoe was traveling Westbound in the 1100 block of Kings Highway. Despite being in a clearly marked cruiser, a red Volkswagen passed him in the right lane at an excessive speed. Deputy Kehoe made his clearly marked cruiser more obvious by activating his emergency equipment and conducting a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Javier Rosales Mendoza, 27. Mendoza had signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He would admit to consuming “one or two” beers. Despite not knowing if it was one or if it was two, it was still one or two too many. It was also discovered Mendoza had a previous DUI in 2023 and a suspended license.

Mendoza was charged with driving under the influence second offense within five years, second offense refusal, driving while suspended, and speeding. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
