A girl’s trip escalated out of control after entering Stafford County resulting in a 67-year-old driver taking a detour to jail.

On June 20th at approximately 4:22 p.m. deputies responded to a disturbance that occurred on Richmond Highway. The preliminary information was the driver of a Bronco was “very intoxicated,” drove on the wrong side of the road, assaulted her passenger, and left the passenger on the side of the road. Deputy H.R. Perkins would locate the assaulted passenger on the side of the road near Austin Park Drive and made contact with her.

It was discovered the pair were traveling to Stafford County of all places from New York. During this trip, the driver, later identified as Lori Amberg, was “all over the road” and assaulted the passenger. Not wanting to be in the vehicle with an intoxicated driver beating on her, the victim exited the vehicle. Amberg would continue her trip, but not before striking the victim with her vehicle. The victim had minor injuries.

While Deputy Perkins cared for the victim, First Sergeant D.W. Fetterolf and Deputy J.J. Holetzky joined the hunt for the Bronco. Unlike the O.J. Simpson chase, this Bronco was quickly located and stopped in the area of Eskimo Hill Road. Amberg had signs of intoxication and admitted to only having a few sips of ice tea mixed with vodka. Considering her blood alcohol content, it appeared there was more than just a few sips of the summer time drink.

Amberg was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above .2, assault and battery, as well as, felony hit and run. She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
