“Interrupt Your Shift” DUI

A juvenile, who “didn’t mean to interrupt your shift,” nearly caused multiple auto accidents after driving under the influence.

On June 4th at approximately 1:56 p.m. Deputy J.L. Jones was patrolling Southbound Richmond Highway in the area of Rowser Street. While doing so, he observed an Acura failing to maintain the lane of travel. This driving behavior would only get worse as Deputy Jones observed it nearly side-swipe multiple vehicles. Deputy Jones activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

Most individuals would pull over to the right when being stopped; however, this driver had other plans. He would continue on and begin traveling Southbound in the Northbound lanes. Luckily, the driver would eventually correct this mistake before any vehicles reached him. Finally, the driver pulled over and Deputy Jones made contact with the 16-year-old. The driver would apologize, stating “I didn’t mean to interrupt your shift.” As kind as that was, Deputy Jones was more concerned with the signs of intoxication, including the strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the driver.

The driver was discovered to have no license and no registration. What he did have was two baggies that contained a green leafy substance. Criminal complaints for driving under the influence, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, eluding a traffic stop, and underage possession of marijuana were submitted. Juvenile Intake denied detention, so he was turned over to family members.

Remember, driving high is driving under the influence. Drive sober or get pulled over.
